It measures residual moisture in your finished product by loss-on-drying: it weighs a sample, heats it, and reports the exact moisture percentage. That's how you confirm a batch is truly dry (typically 1–3%) rather than guessing by feel.

Shelf life lives or dies on it. Under-dried product (too much residual moisture) goes soft, browns, and grows mould or loses its long ambient shelf life. A quick moisture check per batch is the single most useful QC step for anyone selling freeze-dried product.

It uses disposable sample pans (stocked separately as MB pans, 50-packs for OHAUS-style analyzers). Keep a box on hand so you're never blocked from running a quick check.
