Overview

About the FrostX 15

The FrostX 15 is a fully self-contained tray freeze dryer with a suggested maximal load of 15 kg — part of FrostX's M-series (compact, single-phase). Built for small businesses producing freeze-dried food and households preserving the harvest. Single-phase (230 V) — plugs into a normal supply.

Deep-vacuum performance — for food and nutraceutical producers who want serious vacuum capability in a simple, robust machine.
Up to 15 kg suggested load — 7 trays, 1.32 m² shelf area.
Rectangular chamber — more shelf per volume — a rectangular stainless chamber, uncommon at this size. Flat walls take full-width trays with no curved dead space, so more shelf area fits in the same chamber volume — more product per cycle.
Deep vacuum, even drying — two-stage vacuum pump with oil-mist separator, thermal-matrix heating shelves, refrigeration rated for continuous operation.

Excludes labour — cycles run largely unattended; hands-on handling is typically a few minutes per batch with trolleys/mechanisation. Add your own loaded rate if it’s material to your setup.

Yield and cycle-time figures are conservative engineering estimates based on typical product composition and verified machine specifications. Actual results depend on the specific material, recipe, preparation, load and ambient conditions, and may differ. These figures are for planning purposes only; Freeze-drying.tech accepts no responsibility for decisions made on their basis. Freeze-drying.tech can run a validation cycle of your product on the target machine to provide confirmed, measured yield and cycle-time figures.

FAQ

Questions buyers ask.

The FrostX 15 is a value-tier tray freeze dryer with a stainless vacuum chamber aimed at small businesses and serious home preservers. It takes up to 15 kg of fresh product per cycle across 7 trays (1.32 m² working area). FrostX publishes the suggested batch load rather than a separate ice-condenser figure, so size by that load — for high-moisture produce expect roughly 10–20% of the fresh weight as finished product.

It's a practical design point worth understanding. Most freeze dryers use a round (cylindrical) vacuum chamber because it's cheaper to build for vacuum — but curved walls waste space around flat, square trays. FrostX uses an efficient rectangular, cuboidal chamber, so the GN-style trays fill almost the entire internal volume. For the same external footprint you get a larger usable working area and even shelf spacing top-to-bottom — on the FrostX 15, 1.32 m² of shelf across 7 full-width trays. The net effect is more usable shelf area per footprint — which matters most if you're constrained on floor space, and is neutral if you're not.

It runs on standard single-phase 230 V, so no three-phase installation is needed — it plugs into an ordinary socket and rolls into place on its wheels.

A two-stage oil-sealed vacuum pump with an oil-mist separator (internally mounted), plus a continuous-duty refrigeration system using a natural refrigerant with a very low global-warming potential (GWP ≈ 3). A rapid chamber-defrost system is standard on this model. Maintenance is straightforward: periodic pump-oil changes (oil stocked as an accessory) and keeping the mist separator clean for full vacuum.

A cycle pre-freezes product to about −40 °C, pulls chamber pressure down to roughly 50 Pa, then sublimates the ice off under gentle shelf heat — finishing at around 3–4% residual moisture (lower for some products), the range needed for crisp texture and long ambient shelf life without preservatives. Total time is typically 24–40 h depending on product, load and slice thickness. For best colour and structure, pre-freeze product hard before loading — a blast freezer helps.

Every FrostX is CE-certified and carries a 12-month warranty — the standard across most of the market. If longer cover is decisive, only the Leosmak range offers 24 months (extendable to 36); FrostX competes instead on its rectangular-chamber working area, low-GWP refrigerant and value pricing. We'll help you weigh the trade-off against your volumes.
